Center for Education Policy and Practice Workshops

The Massachusetts Teachers Association's Center for Education Policy and Practice (CEPP) provides workshops, institutes, and courses published in its Professional Development Programs booklet. Local associations, school districts and education collaboratives may contract with CEPP to provide any of the programs. After consultation with district staff, all are adapted to the individual needs of the school and/or district.

For your convenience, a PDF file of workshop and course descriptions may be downloaded and printed here.

Course Documentation
MTA is a registered professional development provider with the Massachusetts Department of Education and a registered CEU provider with the International Association of Continuing Education and Training.  MTA provides participants with documentation of course and workshop attendance and course work completion. For district-sponsored workshops, attendance lists are provided so that the district may provide such documentation.

  • Professional Development Points (PDPs):  Every educator with a PROFESSIONAL LICENSE  must earn PDPs to recertify: one contact hour equals one PDP.  Courses offered for graduate credit earn 1.5 PDPs per contact hour, provided that the participant does the work required for graduate credit.
  • Paraprofessional Training Points (PTPs): The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires that all veteran instructional paraprofessionals be "highly qualified" by January 2006.  One option is to earn PTPs through course work to meet this requirement.  One hour equals two PTPs.
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs): In addition to recertification of DOE licensing, some educators, e.g. school nurses, must accrue CEUs for a second professional license; 10 PDPs equal 1 CEU.
